Winter often brings damp conditions, strong winds, and the occasional storm. With these simple tips, you can protect and maintain your OFYR so it’s always ready for memorable outdoor cooking — whatever the season.

Remove the Ashes
1. Prevent Corrosion
Oil regularly: Apply vegetable oil or a non-stick spray to the cooking plate every two weeks.
Shield from the elements: Use a Cover, Snuffer, or Soft Cover. In windy weather, place extra weight on the cover to keep it secure.
Don’t skip oiling: Even with a cover, moisture can build up between the plate and the cover, leading to rust. Regular oiling remains essential.
2. Remove Ash Promptly
Empty the ash tray: For the OFYR PRO collection, empty the ash tray frequently. Never let water sit inside, as it can cause flaking in Corten steel and rust in Black units.
Keep the cone exterior clean: If you own an OFYR Storage or OFYR Island, make sure the outside of the cone is clear so rainwater can drain freely.
Clear debris: Remove ashes, charcoal residue, and wet leaves from the cone to prevent corrosion.

3. Maintain Protective Covers
Preserve the coating: Treat the Cover and Snuffer with wax regularly to prevent fading.
Care for wooden handles: Oil the wooden handles to keep them from drying out and cracking.
4. Store Accessories Properly
Keep teak wood dry: Store teak wood accessories, such as the Fire Guard Ring, in a dry place after each use.
Clean and dry other accessories: Items like the OFYR Tabl’O, Pizza Oven, Grill, cookware, and apparel should be cleaned after every use and stored somewhere dry.
By following this winter care routine, your OFYR will stay beautiful, functional, and ready for year-round outdoor cooking — even on the coldest days.
